WIRE SCAMS

We DO NOT recommend paying any property owner with Western Union, Money Gram or any other wire transfer unless you know them or were recommended personally. It is essentially like paying someone in cash. We believe that most advertisers on rental sites are honest, but occasionally some are not and may create illegitimate ads. Most advertisers will request personal checks and allow them to clear or accept credit cards.

Notice to Owners:

OVERPAYMENT SCAMS

DO NOT accept or deposit any bank or cashiers checks that are OVER the amount owed and then return the difference in cash to the giver. These checks are fake and you could be charged with a crime if you deposit it. Before accepting or depositing cashier checks, always contact the issuing bank directly to determine if it is valid. DO NOT call any numbers that may be given to you by the person who gives you the check. Look up the issuing bank’s phone number for yourself.
